Question
What book would you recommend to other professionals about the industry, and how has the book impacted your own understanding or approach to your field?
Answer
As the founder and CEO of Mass Impact, a digital marketing and consulting firm, I would recommend “The Lean Startup” by Eric Ries. The book provides an experimental approach to creating and managing businesses that we’ve applied to grow revenue.
For example, when launching a new service, we start with a basic trial version to gauge interest. We measure customer response and improve the offering based on feedback. Our social media course sales rose 40% in 6 months using this tactic.
We also pivot based on insights from real clients. We began as a web design firm but learned many wanted digital marketing help. We pivoted to become a full-service agency, growing our customer base 50% last year.
The key is testing ideas through experimentation and engaging customers as partners. Be willing to adapt to match their needs. By embracing continuous improvement, you can build a company that evolves with the market. Focusing on our local community has been key. Sponsoring a festival required donating our expertise but we had fun and website traffic rose 23% after. Revenue increased enough to give bonuses.
Reach out to local groups and see how you can help. Find something unique your business provides so future customers know what to expect. Engaging our community has strengthened our brand and bottom line.
