Answer: We offer a variety of free options to help you and your written work reach as many readers as possible. However, if you require guaranteed results, that’s when you will be required to pay the required fees. Producing results requires manpower, financial, as well as other resources. Thus, it is logical and ethical for us to charge fees. Regardless, our fees are reasonable and relatively affordable compared to other service providers.

What we do for you is our job. Like any other job, we believe you’d understand that we also need compensation so we could eat and live like all humans do. “White slavery” should no longer exist, so we endeavor to provide compensation for the work done as far as we could and should; thus, we charge fees to cover costs for us to do what we do for you.

B. AWARDS

Question: How do I nominate for a BREW book, blog, or poetry award?

Answer: Know more about the award by clicking the button below.

Question: Why do I have to pay a fee when nominating my book(s) for the awards?

Answer: There may be free nomination slots sponsored by one of our partners from time to time. If there are none or if you choose to pay for your book’s nomination, the fee is not meant to guarantee a book an award. Funds from award nomination fees are paid to cover the administration and operational costs to carry out the systems and processes for the awards – from planning, nomination, screening, shortlisting, selection up to winner announcement as well as all else happening in between. “White slavery” should no longer exist, so we endeavor to provide compensation for work done as far as we could and should; thus, we charge fees to cover costs for us to do what we do for you.

Question: My book did not win a BREW Book Excellence Award. Can I lodge an appeal?

Answer: The judges’ decisions are final.

Question: My book did not win a BREW Book Excellence Award. How will I know what my book’s rank was in the screening process?

Answer: Non-winners will not receive an explanation about the judges’ decision. If you’d like to get post-screening feedback from the judges, you need to pay the applicable extra fees at the time of nomination.

Question: I’d like to nominate my book(s) for a BREW Book Excellence Award. However, I cannot afford to pay the fee. Can you help?

Answer: Our partner, Store with a Heart (South Australia Prestige Awards 2020/21 Gift Store of the Year), has committed to sponsoring a limited number of nominations. Thus, if you’re quick enough, you may be one of the lucky authors who can get free or discounted slots for your entry. You can refer to the main awards page for more details about the sponsorships.

Question: I’d like to nominate my book(s) for a BREW Book Excellence Award. However, I am having technical difficulties or personal issues that prevent me from filling up the form(s). Can you help?

Answer: We expect all nominations to be completed on or before the set deadline. However, if you are having issues, please contact us ASAP so we can discuss what can be done.

Question: I’d like to nominate my book(s) for a BREW Book Excellence Award. However, I was not able to submit the requirements on time. Will my book’s nomination progress?

Answer: In the interest of fairness, all submissions must be completed by authors and received by us not later than the set deadline.

However, all authors are welcome to join the following year’s awards.

Question: My book had been published several years ago. Would it still be eligible for nomination in the awards?

Answer: Generally, all published books and completed books with confirmed publication dates as posted on Goodreads and book retailer sites are eligible for nomination to the awards regardless of the publication date, except for the “Young Bud” or “New Book” award category where only newly-published books on the award year can be entered. Unpublished manuscripts with no confirmed publication date are not yet eligible for entry, although we may open a new category especially meant for such in the future.

Question: What are the other BREW Awards?

Answer: To know more about our complete list of BREW Book, Blog, and Poetry Awards, go to this link: The BREW Awards.

Question: Do you offer Editorial Review services?

Answer: From 2 February 2024, we are now offering both editorial and reader reviews. Henceforth, unpaid reviews will usually be reader reviews unless marked otherwise while paid reviews will depend on the review type ordered.

Question: What is the difference between editorial and reader reviews?

Answer:

BREW offers free and paid reader or editorial reviews. Here are the usual differences and similarities between reader and editorial reviews:

Differences between Reader Reviews and Editorial Reviews:

  1. Source: Editorial reviews are typically written by professional reviewers, critics, or organizations, while reader reviews may also be written by everyday readers who have read the book.
  2. Perspective: Editorial reviews are often written with a more objective and critical perspective, focusing on literary merit and craftsmanship, while reader reviews may vary widely in tone and content, reflecting personal opinions and experiences.
  3. Publication: Editorial reviews are often published in reputable sources such as literary magazines, newspapers, or online review platforms like ours, whereas reader reviews are usually posted on retail websites, social media, or personal blogs.
  4. Authority: Editorial reviews are perceived to carry more authority and credibility due to the expertise of the reviewer or the reputation of the publication, while reader reviews may be viewed with varying degrees of trust depending on the reader’s perceived credibility and expertise.
  5. Length and Depth: Editorial reviews tend to be longer and more in-depth, offering detailed analysis and critique of the book, whereas reader reviews can range from brief comments to longer, more personal reflections on the reading experience.
  6. Purpose: Editorial reviews serve to inform readers, promote read-worthy books, and provide feedback to authors and publishers, while reader reviews primarily serve as personal recommendations, expressions of enjoyment or dissatisfaction, and contributions to the book’s visibility and online presence.

Similarities between Reader Reviews and Editorial Reviews:

  1. Evaluation: Both types of reviews evaluate a book based on various criteria such as plot, characterization, writing style, and overall enjoyment.
  2. Feedback: They provide feedback to authors, offering insights into what resonates with readers and areas that may need improvement.
  3. Influence: Both types of reviews can influence potential readers’ decisions to purchase or read a book, as they provide social proof and credibility.
  4. Online Presence: Both reader and editorial reviews can be found online on platforms such as Amazon, Goodreads, or book review websites like ours, contributing to the book’s visibility.
    • Amazon has a special place for editorial reviews on a book’s page on the site.
    • Excerpts from both BREW reader and editorial reviews can be used as an “editorial review” on Amazon, on the book, and the book’s other promotional materials.
    • BREW reader and editorial reviews are posted on our website and shared to our social media channels.
    • Most BREW reviewers also share their reviews on their own sites or channels, although that’s optional and are not expected or incentivized.
  5. Impact: Both types of reviews can have a significant impact on an author’s reputation and book sales, especially if they are widely read and positive.
  6. Usage: Both types of BREW reviews can be used for various purposes.

Question: Why should I pay for a book review?

Answer: Reviews have multiple purposes. They create interest in your book. They give prospective buyers and readers an advanced look at your content, helping them decide whether to read your book or not.

We offer both free and unpaid review services to cater to different circumstances and means.

Whereas unpaid reviews are ideal, they may not always be readily possible. For example, readers may love reading, but they have other commitments to prioritize over writing a review. Some readers may love your book, but they may not have the time to write a review for you. Also, not everyone is born with a golden spoon. More often than not, we need to work to earn a living – for our needs and bills, and for our loved ones.

With our paid review packages, we will look for readers who are interested in reviewing your book. We will reserve review slots for you at a tiny fraction of the usual cost for similar services.

When you get 1 of our paid review packages, you are not paying for a positive review. You are paying for the service of us finding a reader who will read and review your book.

You are NOT and will never be guaranteed a perfect review score or a review written the way you expect it to be. What you are guaranteed, though, is that you are getting real readers’ feedback for your book.

Reviews with 5 out of 5 stars ratings will be published automatically. However, we will give you the option to not have a review published.

Question: I want perfect ratings for my books. Is this possible?

Answer: You are NOT and will never be guaranteed a perfect review score or a review written the way you expect it to be. What you are guaranteed, though, is that you are getting real reader’s feedback for your book.

Reviews with 5 out of 5 stars ratings will be published automatically. However, we will give you the option to unpublish or not have a review published if the rating is below 5 stars.

Question: Can I choose the reviewer for my book?

Answer: No. Your book will be reviewed by our reviewer who is available and interested in reading it and writing a corresponding review.

Question: Will the book review be posted publicly? If yes, where?

Answer: Yes. At no extra cost to you, we will automatically post reviews with 5 out of 5 star-ratings on our website and share them to our social media channels. You can choose to not publish or unpublish reviews with other ratings.

Question: Will the book review be posted on Amazon or Goodreads?

Answer: It depends on the reviewer. Our reviewers are not paid, incentivised, expected, or requested to post reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, and other non-BREW websites (except on our own partner platforms). We currently do not prevent them from doing so either, if it’s their personal choice; however, we may change this policy if circumstances warrant such to be so. We constantly review our policies and procedures to ensure that we align with third-party platform rules, to protect the integrity of our offerings, as well as to ensure the utmost benefit for both readers and content creators alike.

Question: Which books do you review or promote?

Answer: We review nearly all published books from authors and publishers of all kinds. We also accept ARCs, provided they have a confirmed publication date and are listed on Goodreads with a cover image and an author profile photo. This helps us verify book details through Goodreads’ extensive database, which draws information from a wide range of sources including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and community contributions. That being said, we are not affiliated with Goodreads nor do we offer any Goodreads-related services.

Our awards, promotions, and other services may have additional publication date and other requirements. Please refer to each individual BREW service’s page for more details.

We currently do not accept erotica or books with themes that glorify, espouse, or encourage violence or harming persons or entities; gambling; lawlessness; illegal or prohibited acts, services, or products.

We also reserve the right to reject requests or submissions, retract awards, unpublish reviews or write-ups on our website and platforms, and other similar measures if we have sufficient reason to do so based on our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Disclaimer and Disclosure, and other terms and conditions relevant to our products and services.

For any questions, contact us via info@thechrysalisbrewproject.com.

Question: Will I get a guaranteed number of sales out of your book promotion services?

Answer: If you are looking for a promotion service that will guarantee you an outright financial return on investments (ROI), you have come to the wrong place. Our promotional offers are best if you are after non-financial ROIs. If your goal is to reach more readers who will read your book, then we may be able to help you with that.

Our free promotion services may (but may also not) produce positive results.

Question: Are you a press release submission or distribution site?

Answer: No.

(Note: We are not a PR submission or distribution site. We merely facilitate your PR submission and distribution processes. However, we will do the legwork and heavy lifting while helping you avoid the guesswork, leverage the competitive pricing, and ensure the likelihood of acceptance and publication of your PR through our experience and network.)
