About the Author

J. Stanion

Author of the BREW Seal of Excellence recipient and BREW Fiction Book Excellence Award 2023 Political Fiction of the Year, “My Place Among Them,” J. Stanion holds a BS in Animal Science with a minor in Wildlife Biology (’78) and a Master’s in Agricultural Education with a concentration in Therapeutic Riding (’06) from Clemson University. With a distinguished career spanning 31 years, she taught middle school science, high school food science, and livestock production before retiring to assist her husband on their family cattle farm. Her lifelong passions for horses, Indigenous culture, and education have consistently shaped her endeavors.

Currently, J. Stanion resides on the family farm, raising Angus cattle. In her spare time, she cares for seven horses, a three-legged dog, and numerous barn cats. An avid collector of Pine Ridge Pottery, ledger art, and turquoise jewelry, she is now looking forward to returning to writing. She has plans for another historical novel or perhaps a contemporary tale about life on the farm.
