The BREW Laureate Council

The BREW Laureate Council is a distinguished body of judges entrusted with upholding the highest standards of excellence across all BREW Awards programs. Composed of past winners, finalists, and select volunteer experts, the Council brings together a diverse range of experience, insight, and integrity in evaluating creative works from around the world.

✨ Who Makes Up the BREW Laureate Council?

  • BREW Award Winners and Finalists:
All individuals who win or place as a finalist in any BREW Awards program are automatically included in the BREW Laureate Council. Their award-winning achievements serve as proof of their capability to evaluate works to an exceptional standard.
  • Approved Volunteer Judges:
To complement the insights of our laureates, the Council also includes specially selected volunteer judges. These individuals are respected authors, bloggers, educators, editors, or subject matter experts who share BREW’s commitment to integrity, fairness, and excellence.

📜 Participation Guidelines

  • Automatic Inclusion:
BREW award winners and finalists are automatically added to the BREW Laureate Council.
  • Volunteer Selection:
Volunteer judges must undergo an approval process before joining.
  • Voluntary Participation:
Membership in the Council is a recognition of excellence; however, active judging remains voluntary. All members are invited to complete the Judging Form for each BREW Awards judging round. Only those who submit the form will receive access to detailed judging instructions and assignments for that particular judging round.
  • Participation Flexibility:
Members may participate in as few or as many judging rounds as they wish. However, volunteer judges must complete at least one judging round before they can be officially listed as part of the BREW Laureate Council.
  • Conflict of Interest:
Members may not judge any category or award where their own work (book, blog, poem, or project) is entered. Fairness, transparency, and impartiality are essential to maintaining the integrity of the BREW Awards. Members with current award entries will not be sent an invitation for the relevant judging round. Additionally, members are expected to proactively opt out of any judging round where there may be other potential conflicts of interest, whether personal, professional, or otherwise.
  • Judging Expectations:
Council members who opt in to judge for a particular round are encouraged to review at least one entry during that round. Judging is guided by the BREW Awards’ official guidelines, criteria, and training resources, all of which emphasise fairness, constructive feedback, and thoughtful evaluation.
  • Certificate of Appreciation:
Members who assess at least one entry per award judging round will receive an official Certificate of Appreciation on or before 31 December of the year following the award results announcement.

📬 Interested in Becoming a Volunteer Judge?

If you have expertise in writing, blogging, poetry, publishing, editing, education, or a relevant creative field and would like to be considered for the BREW Laureate Council, please complete the following form: Expression of Interest to Become a BREW Awards Judge.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Do I have to participate in judging every judging cycle?

While inclusion in the BREW Laureate Council is automatic for winners, finalists, and approved volunteers, active judging each judging cycle is voluntary. Members may opt out of judging for any award cycle by simply not completing the Judging Form sent for that particular judging round. Judges may also opt to skip judging any particular entry, for any reason.

2. Can I judge if my own work is entered in the awards?

You cannot judge any category or award where your own work (book, blog, poem, or project) is entered. If your work has been nominated for a particular judging round, you will not be sent the Judging Form for that round. If you notice a potential or actual conflict of interest, you must skip judging a particular entry. This helps ensure a fair, transparent, and impartial judging process.

3. What if I want to opt out of judging completely?

You may opt out at any time. Simply respond to our judging invitation email with your name and “Opt-Out Request” in the subject line, and we will update our records. If you are unable to locate our email, you may also use our Contact Form to notify us.

4. Is judging training or guidance provided?

For every judging round, we provide an updated set of guidelines, evaluation criteria, and conflict-of-interest protocols to all Council members. These materials ensure fairness, consistency, and constructive feedback throughout the process.

5. How many entries do I need to judge?

Volunteer judges must assess at least one entry each award year to remain listed on the BREW Laureate Council page. All other members may choose whether to judge in any given round but are encouraged to review at least one entry if able. Reviewing additional entries is welcome when your schedule allows.

6. What do I receive for participating as a judge?

Judges who review at least one entry will receive a Certificate of Appreciation delivered on or before 31 December of the year following the award results announcement.

7. Can I judge more than one category or platform?

Yes, if you are available and there’s no conflict of interest, you may judge multiple categories or awards across our BREW Awards programs.

8. How are volunteer judges selected?

Volunteer judges are carefully selected based on their expertise in writing, blogging, poetry, editing, education, or related creative fields. They must also align with the BREW Awards’ standards of integrity and excellence.

9. Can I recommend someone to become a volunteer judge?

Yes! We welcome recommendations. Please have your nominee complete our Expression of Interest to Become a BREW Awards Judge Form.

10. Who should I contact if I have questions about judging?

For any inquiries regarding judging responsibilities, guidelines, or opt-outs, please contact us by responding to our email to you or via our Contact Form.
