The compelling story of phenomenal events occurring in the Caribbean fishing village of Buritaca.
Leo Lumière, a science student from Australia, was tasked with discovering something special in the remote Colombian Department of Magdalena. Maria swore a parrot told her that she would be the mother of a saviour. Was Maria the virgin mother she professed to be, or was Pablo the father? Miraculous events unfolded that challenged Leo’s scientific reasoning. Torn between revealing a crime and protecting Maria from efforts to eliminate the claimed divine child, his task took an unexpected turn. Tens of thousands converged into the region hoping to witness Maria with her paranormal parrot, all chanting one phrase, ‘Loro Santo’: Holy Parrot.

  • Titles of All Books: Mary Poser
    Holy Parrot
  • 1. Did you love reading books when you were little? Why or why not?: Yes! They were a perfect compliment to a vivid imagination. I have always been eager for an 'expanded experience' of life. You can't be everywhere at once, so books offer a portal to distant realms, ideas and thoughts.
  • 2. At what age did you start reading books? What were your best memories of that time?: I'm not really sure. I know I had access to comics that I particularly enjoyed as a young child. Dr Seuss then became a featured favourite. Edgar Rice Burroughs and his 'Tarzan' series complimented the wild adventure appetite that was brewing.
  • 3. What was the first book you loved reading? Why?: I really enjoyed 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull'. It was an invitation to enjoy the simple magnificence of life.
  • 4. When did you first think about writing your first book? Why?: I decided to write my first novel, Mary Poser, in response to recommendations made to me regarding the screenplay I had written of the same name. This was likely around 2011. I visited Nashville, Tennessee four times (from Australia) to work on the project. It took around five years to complete the novel.
  • 5. What was the greatest obstacle you've encountered when you were writing your book? What made you overcome it?: Finishing is the most difficult element for me. It's when all the narrative arcs must come together and be concluded effectively. Then the grand hurdle is the perpetual re-reading and editing that never seems to end. I tell myself to discipline my errant thoughts and get on with it. Perhaps the idea that I begin each project as a 'promise' to complete is the ultimate reminder to honour the promise and to push though and get it done.
  • 6. What pieces of advice can you give aspiring authors? What worked for you?: I believe that persistence and tenacity will be your greatest assets. Don't worry about 'perfect' or 'approval'. Just start and keep going. You'll end up dedicating more than you could have imagined, but that's all part of it. I don't know of anyone who received a literary award saying, 'it was easy'. So roll your sleeves up and write!
  • 7. Who are the authors or what are the books that had the greatest influence in your own writing? Why?: I mentioned Edgar Rice Burroughs earlier. I liked the exotic location and the strength of physique and character of the protagonist. It was perhaps something to aspire to.
I really enjoyed Isaac Asimov's I Robot and Foundation Trilogy. The conundrums experienced by the A.I. with in-built laws made for an interesting introduction to psychology. I grew to understand that our world views are often based on laws that we have given to ourselves. When we meet others with a conflicting set of operational laws, that makes for good story telling!
  • 8. What are your current or future writing plans? What can readers further expect from you?: I'm working with an illustrator on my first graphic novel. It's called 'Bring Me To Life'. It's about a ghost-like individual who uses alchemy to return to life for love.

"This book gets an easy 5 out of 5 stars from me. It was extremely hard to put down, and the characters became as familiar as old friends."
~Literary Titan

"Angel A’s HOLY PARROT is a well-written, compelling novel with an engaging story line and characters with depth, interesting motivations, and lots of personality."
    ~Florence Osmund for IndieReader

"Holy Parrot ideally will assume an active role in any book club or reader group interested in the intersection between science and faith, the resulting drive for a better life, and the miracles that can power such convictions."
~D. Donovan, Sr. Reviewer, Midwest Book Review

“Author Angel A knows how to keep readers in the palm of his hand, delivering a superb range of dramatic highs and lows that come from some really surprising and eye-opening clashes of opinion and belief.”
    ~K.C. Finn for Readers’ Favorite

“It´s not often I´m surprised by a novel. And I read A LOT! But, in the case of Holy Parrot, I thought, “Yes, that´s a remarkably original plot.”
    ~The Wishing Shelf

“Holy Parrot is an unpredictable read that celebrates the human spirit over conventional skepticism. We recommend it for readers wanting something distinctively crafted by a gifted author.”
    ~AuthorsReading

“In smooth and polished prose, Angel A compellingly examines the myriad and sometimes opposing ways in which humans deal with the challenges of life and faith, questioning our over reliance on science and scientific methods and our doubt and distrust about more traditional streams of knowledge, especially those of non-European origin.”
