  • Did you love reading books when you were little? Why or why not?: I don’t like to invent a perfect story about my childhood relationship with books. What I can say is that, over time, reading became an important way for me to learn, question ideas, and turn complex concepts into something practical and useful for other people. Today, that same approach influences the way I teach and write about leadership.
  • At what age did you start reading books? What were your best memories of that time?: I don’t remember the exact age when I started reading books, and I prefer not to invent a precise memory. What I do remember is that reading gradually became a way to discover ideas, understand people better, and connect concepts with real situations. Over time, that curiosity became an important part of the way I learn and teach.
  • What was the first book you loved reading? Why?: I don’t have a reliable memory of one specific “first” book that I can name with certainty. What stayed with me more strongly was the experience of finding books that helped me understand something in a new way. That is still what I value most in reading today: discovering an idea that changes how you look at a situation and gives you something practical to apply.
  • When did you first think about writing your first book? Why?: I don’t remember one exact moment when I first decided to write a book. The idea grew gradually through my work with students and participants in leadership courses and coaching sessions. Many of them would ask me if I had something they could continue reading after the class.

That repeated question became the real starting point. I realized they needed practical material they could return to later, not just notes from a course. That is why I began turning those conversations, questions, and learning experiences into a practical leadership manual. The first book eventually became the beginning of the Manuales de liderazgo collection.
  • What was the greatest obstacle you've encountered when you were writing your book? What made you overcome it?: One of the greatest obstacles was turning complex leadership concepts into something simple, practical, and genuinely useful for someone who was just beginning to lead.

I did not want the book to become a collection of theories or definitions. The challenge was deciding what was essential, how to explain it clearly, and how to connect each idea with situations a new leader could actually recognize.

What helped me overcome that obstacle was keeping the reader in mind. Whenever a concept became too abstract, I went back to a simple question: How would I explain this to someone who needs to use it tomorrow with their team? That helped me simplify the language without losing the meaning and shaped the practical style of the Manuales de liderazgo collection.
  • What pieces of advice can you give aspiring authors? What worked for you?: For aspiring authors, I would suggest starting with a real problem you want to help the reader solve. It is easy to focus too much on writing a book and forget who the book is for.

What worked for me was keeping the reader in mind throughout the process. I tried to make every concept clear, practical, and connected to situations a new leader could recognize. When an explanation became too complicated, I simplified it and asked myself whether the reader would know what to do with that idea.

I would also recommend writing before trying to make everything perfect. You can improve structure, language, and examples later, but first you need something real to work with.

For me, the most useful principle has been simple: write to help someone understand something better, not just to demonstrate what you know.
  • Who are the authors or what are the books that had the greatest influence in your own writing? Why?: I would not reduce my influences to one or two authors, because my writing has been shaped more by a combination of leadership, coaching, communication, and personal development literature.

What has influenced me most is not a particular writing style, but the way some authors are able to take a complex idea and make it understandable, practical, and useful. I am especially drawn to books that do more than explain a concept: they help the reader see a familiar situation differently and then translate that new understanding into action.

That is the approach I try to bring to my own books. I want the reader to finish a chapter not only knowing more, but also being able to observe something differently, ask a better question, or make a better decision as a leader.
  • What are your current or future writing plans? What can readers further expect from you?: My current writing plans are focused on continuing the Manuales de liderazgo collection and developing practical books for people who are beginning to lead teams.

Readers can expect more titles connected with the everyday challenges of leadership: communication, feedback, delegation, motivation, objectives, decision-making, and the development of people.

I also want to keep the same approach throughout the collection: clear explanations, practical examples, and tools that can be applied in real situations. My goal is not to write books that only explain leadership, but books that help readers understand what to observe, what to ask, and what they can do differently when they are leading.
