“I just got out of the hospital. I was in a speed reading accident. I hit a book mark and flew across the room.”
― Steven Wright
I was sitting in my cozy reading nook, with a stack of books taller than Mount Everest beside me. I’m all pumped up, ready to conquer those pages at lightning speed. But little did I know, disaster was lurking just around the corner.
As I’m flipping through the pages faster than the speed of light, I reach for my trusty bookmark to hold my place. But before I can blink, disaster strikes – I slam headfirst into that bookmark and the stack of books like a cartoon character running into a wall! Next thing I know, everything just got flung all over the place and I scrambled to pick things up all across the room like a superhero in a comic book.
And there you have it – the tale of my epic speed-reading accident.
But you know what? It is not a true story, because I made that up along the way. Nonetheless, the truth is that I am not free from bumps and embarrassments like that in real life. Even so, I wouldn’t trade those awkward moments for the world. Because in those moments, I can glean something important: that life, like reading, isn’t a race. It’s not about how fast you can flip through the pages; it’s about savoring each word, each sentence, and each story.
So, here’s to slowing down, taking a deep breath, and enjoying the journey – bookmark collisions and all. Because when it comes to reading, it’s not about how far you fly; it’s about how deeply you explore the magic of each page – literally or figuratively.
How about you? What do you think? Do you agree with this quote? I’m looking forward to knowing your thoughts.
