  • Listing ID: 36456
  • Poetry Author's Name: Chris B.
  • Poem: I wish I could be more like her
she is such a big believer
When I am busy punching walls
she paints bright pictures in the halls
It’s not that I don’t have those dreams
where he runs and talks back and screams
Hell I wish he’d yell and fight back
but I’ll take even one “Hi” back
I wish I could be in the clouds
    away from the paperwork mounds
Maybe if I stack them and climb
I just might be given a sign
Heaven if I pray for renewal
can you fast track insurance approvals?
I wish I could be like the rocks
I just can’t afford to crumble
We carefully put on his socks
lift and the pain keeps us humble
Don’t worry it’s all good right?
I’ll tell myself that again tonight
I wish I could break this cycle
and suddenly I see his smile
He laughs and claps and sings and reminds me
the angels are rallying behind me
I should know because when I see her
I see so much more than The Believer
The next time I want to punch the walls
I’ll stop and join her in the halls
We’ll paint and dance and I’ll see the light
that two angels lift me up tonight
