Poem:
Our Choice
The past talks to us,
if we listen to the voices.
They tell tales of the rise and fall of kings,
carved onto stones in ancient alphabets,
like light beaming down from a long dead star.
The future talks to us,
silently in our worst nightmares.
The Age of Man ends when no neighbour's spared.
High mountains slide under the deep ocean.
The bright sun blackens - the end of all things.
The present talks to us,
as we exist now, here, today.
Those lofty sentinels gaze down upon
our verdant lands and endless sun-kissed seas.
Worst nightmare or neighbour spared? It's our choice. - Poet's Bio: Michael Eyre (he/him) writes poems. A number have been published in literary magazines or been highly commended in poetry competitions. He is a graduate of Liverpool University and the University of Central Lancashire.
