  • Listing ID: 36602
  • Poetry Author's Name: Nandini Sen Mehra
  • Poem: Are you still waiting
to see which way the wind will blow,
Will you wait for the tornado
to rips out your neighbour’s door?
The wall is covered in writing
that your eyes and heart don’t see,
there is no refuge, no safety
until each of us is free,
    and equal before the law
in this land we call our own,
don’t wait until the knock comes
for you in your own home,
for the freedoms that you cherish
will be theirs to take away,
no matter which way you plead then,
it matters little what you say,
unless you heed the clarion call,
    for justice and for truth,
and fight for what is fair, is right,
for them, but more for you,
for what is joy i in a land you love,
that is ravaged with such hate,
    won’t you stop this evil,
    on its onward march,
    before it’s far too late?
