Author's Profile + Interview + Book Profile / by The Contributing Writer / 822 views / Featured
In her self-published memoir, Stephanie narrates her remarkable journey through childhood, adolescence, and early-adult life with parents who struggled with addiction and poverty. She describes her fight to survive, and reveals her growing understanding of the role that inner strength and determination has played in her personal and professional achievements.
Stephanie explores how she learned to overcome debilitating depression, the return of suppressed childhood memories, as well as severe domestic family violence and sexual abuse.
In dark moments of despair, Stephanie was unsure if she was going to be able to survive the travesties of her life. Questioning herself, Steph realised that she was the only person who had control of her life and its outcomes. She then spent ten years going through therapy and learning how to process her traumatic experiences.
Through recounting these raw experiences, she shows how the stories we tell about ourselves can help to shape who we become, and influence others around us.
Determined to learn the skills that weren’t taught to her, and constantly striving for a life of development, Stephanie fought for, and created, a flourishing life. She writes authentically and honestly as she takes her reader on this clear, yet unconventional, tour.
This autobiographical memoir expresses Steph’s unique journey as she travels through the stages of survival and taking back her narrative. She fully understands the power in speaking up about her lived experiences. By not shying away from her truth, she hopes to touch and help others in similar situations, and work towards a world where these experiences don’t happen.
Stephanie now knows that when we step away from society’s conditioning, and embrace empowerment and community, a life of liberation, freedom, joy, and wonder awaits. This memoir has a little, and a lot, of everything as Steph bravely and definitely takes her reader on a journey of strength, hope, and life.

- Titles of All Books: Fiercely Me
- Author's Name: Stephanie Rowe
- Did you love reading books when you were little? Why or why not?: I thoroughly enjoyed reading books, I would go to the library and borrow books, I would go home and fall into each word, paragraph and chapter, until I was in the world which the writer had created for me. It was my escape, reading books.
- At what age did you start reading books? What were your best memories of that time?: I started reading when I was young, although I found great difficulty reading and writing. My favorite book, which I have bought for every child in my life and have a copy for myself as I love it so much is "WHERE THE FOREST MEETS THE SEA BY JEANNIE BAKER" I still as an adult fall into my imagination when I read this book. The message is so powerful as well.
- What was the first book you loved reading? Why?: Above
- When did you first think about writing your first book? Why?: In my teenage years I understood that I would write my memoir, and have always written throughout my life. I have a lot of writing which I didn't include in my self published memoir Fiercely ME. I understood from a young age that storytelling is a powerful tool to share knowledge and connect with people. I wanted to connect with the reader through storytelling so others could quickly connect but also (hopefully) feel empowered. The reader isn't alone, we all struggle, my story isn't unique, it is a shared experience. When the reader finishes the book they feel they can truly love themself and make positive changes to the world they are living in. Anything is possible.

What was the greatest obstacle you've encountered when you were writing your book? What made you overcome it?:
I have had many obstacles writing Fiercely ME. The first obstacle was self doubt, I didn't think I could write, I was writing the book in a way to appease my family, I wasn't being honest about my experience or my story. I had to overcome this, it was up to me to realise I can write, I can tell my story, it was imperative that I write my story in my voice with full transparency. This book is now me taking back my story and narrative which I am extremely happy about, it took a lot of self belief to get to this place.
The second obstacle was my vision and style I wanted to write in. A lot of industry professionals told me this wasn't a good way to write my story, I should go down the traditional memoir writing style. Being my first book, I was allowing their perception to cloud what my heart and intuition was telling me, creating self doubt. This is when I renamed the book Fiercely ME as it had a different name previously. I took time to delve deep within my soul and had some really hard discussions around how I wanted my story to be told. I came back and continued writing and rewriting the book in storytelling form, because that was what I wanted, I had to come to terms with the fact that some industry people might not like this style and that is okay. I know my story needs to be shared and other readers, my story will connect with people and it will have a positive impact, that is what truly matters. Every time someone would criticize my choices I would have to come back to why I was writing Fiercely ME, know deep down this is how I wanted to write my story. I held on tight through the entire process of why I wrote it the way I did. - What pieces of advice can you give aspiring authors? What worked for you?: Every story deserves to be written, it is one of the most difficult experiences writing a book in my opinion. It is such a wonderful feeling to hold your book and feel the accomplishment which you have just carried out. To fulfill a goal on this magnitude is so rewarding. I would give a level of caution depending on what the subject you are talking/writing about is. My story was transparent and honest and this sometimes isn't received very well by family members and this is something to consider when writing. If your gut is telling you to go in one direction with your story or writing go with your gut, try and be a duck and let the water roll off your back. Keep going even on the toughest days, your story deserves to be shared.
- Who are the authors or what are the books that had the greatest influence in your own writing? Why?: Untamed by Glennon Doyle, I really enjoyed the way she shared her story and her writing style. A part of me understood that my book and my writing style would connect with people if Glennon style connected with people. I have smaller sub chapters so people can pick up the book and read it at different times and not necessarily need to read the chapters before hand to be able to read each sub chapter. Story telling is such a powerful writing style and connecting with readers in this style, Untamed demonstrated this perfectly in my eyes.

What are your current or future writing plans? What can readers further expect from you?:
At the moment I am working on a collaboration poetry book, called "Words Within Our Worlds" Which has 24 Poets contributing from around the world. It will be released at the start of 2024. I see poetry as an instrumental way of connecting to people in different written forms. The poems submitted are of a high caliber and I am so excited to be sharing it with the world. I have people from nearly every continent submitting their work. Some poets will be submitting from there native tongue and also translating their poems into English, at the moment I have four different written languages. I have poets contributing from established poets to up and coming poets. The poetry book really highlights humanity and expresses so many view points through written word, it is a really special project and I am so honored to have my poems alongside so many incredible poets.
I have also decided to write a book about my recent horrific car accident, my husband and I were driven off a cliff in the Peruvian Amazon and survived. It has been a horrific journey and I have been struggling terribly physically and mentally with the trauma caused by the accident. I have decided the best thing for me to do is write! This will be my next book, writing about living and surviving.
