“Fantasy is hardly an escape from reality. It’s a way of understanding it.”
– Llyod Alexander
Fantasy is the oldest genre in the world. Even before books were in existence, there was fantasy. Humankind has been sharing epic tales of magic, mythology, and folklore. These stories have been passed through generations. Even today, despite all our technological advancements, we are still fascinated by the supernatural that cannot be explained by technology or the macabre. After all, we have grown up listening to fairy tales and reading myths and mythology. In fact, scholars have also studied the oldest myths and epics in detail to get answers to some of the most difficult questions about humanity.
It is no wonder that we are still awed by the genre of fantasy. This is why ancient epics like Homer’s Illiad and Oddessey, among others, have continued to reign supreme even after centuries. Modern fantasies like J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series and George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series have gained endearing popularity.
Authors still continue to pen fantastical novels for the enjoyment of readers. Here, I have listed some of the best read-worthy books of the fantasy, folklore, and epic genre.

Kali’s body starts mutating and her nightmares take control over her. Now, it is up to her to vanquish her internal demons and take back the reigns of her own life. Dragum is the story of one girl’s quest to find herself and reclaim her identity. The element of fantasy makes K.C. LaSaga’s book all the more unputdownable.
Conclusion
As Dr. Seuss said, “Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.” Our dry lives would be unbearably monotonous if we did not add a spice of fantasy to them. This is why the magical genre of fantasy, epic, and folklore has so many fans.

Are you Bengali?
I loved the Dr. Seuss quote. And I would’ve guessed epic and fantasy were different genres, but I guess that’s a blurry line. I love the idea of a fantasy book set in Victorian London!
Dr. Seuss always has a way with words! And you’re absolutely right about the blurred lines between epic and fantasy genres. A fantasy book set in Victorian London sounds like a captivating blend of history and imagination. It’s exciting to explore the endless possibilities within the world of literature!
