“Fools have a habit of believing that everything written by a famous author is admirable. For my part I read only to please myself and like only what suits my taste.”
― Voltaire, Candide
Voltaire’s got a knack for dropping truths with a side of sass! It’s like he’s saying, “Listen up, folks! Just ’cause someone’s famous doesn’t mean everything they write is gold. Me? I read to make myself happy. If it tickles my fancy, great. If not, I’ll pass.”
And you know what? That’s a pretty solid approach to life – not just books. We shouldn’t blindly follow the crowd or put people on pedestals just because they’re famous and disregard those who are not. We’re all different, with our own quirks and tastes.
So, let’s embrace our uniqueness and read what brings us joy. Whether it’s highbrow literature or cheesy romance novels, it’s all good as long as it lights up our souls. And hey, if we can share that joy with others along the way, even better!
How about you? What do you think? Do you agree with this quote? I’m looking forward to knowing your thoughts.
