Working with Compton PD, he witnessed and solved violent crimes throughout his career. He gives an honest account of a corrupted system rife with racial discrimination. Reynolds also freely discusses the mental health issues that result from law enforcement operatives’ frequent exposure to brutalities. From intricate details of some intriguing cases to various personal quirks of his colleagues, this memoir offers the readers a complete picture of life as a police officer,” states Shrabastee Chakraborty – an academic, avid reader, and book critic – as she refers to Reynolds’ nonfiction.

I can’t think of a more deserving book of being April 2022’s BREW Readers’ Choice Award winner. I just had the pleasure of reviewing this book, and I truly believe everyone should read this book. Especially if you don’t think you need to read it. I know we all want to think we are so “woke,” but there’s nothing like reading Reynolds’ unabashedly honest memoir to truly get the intricacies of racism and other problems that permeate America. Congratulations!
